TONY BLAIR, Englands premiärminister
10 DOWNING STREET
The Prime Minister
I am delighted to have this opportunity
to send through Claire Ward this message of congratulations on the
opening of "The Glory of India Vedic Culture Museum."
India has always been able to reconcile
her strong and varied religious and cultural heritage with the demands
of the modern world. Britain has benefited from this heritage through
the vibrant presence of the Indian community and looks forward to
working with India, in a truly modern partnership, as we approach
the next millennium. I wish the Museum every success.

festival, Ratha-yatra:
"I am glad to have this opportunity to convey my support for
the 36th annual Ratha Yatra Festival and to signal the Government's
strong commitment to diversity and the contribution it can make
to Britain today. We are determined to see the kind of dynamic society
in which people from different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds
can truly celebrate what we have in common as well as retaining
and being proud of our distinctive identities.
I very much welcome events such as this,
which will help us all to celebrate the values and benefits of diversity
whilst developing a greater sense of shared values. This festival
sees different communities coming together, but also shows the positive
expression of belief that is characetristic of the Krishna consciousness
movement and of British Hindus more widely."

MESSAGE FROM THE PRIME MINISTER:
"I am delighted to send my very best
wishes to everyone attending the Janmashtami celebration at the
House of Commons organised by Tony McNulty MP and supported by ISKCON
and the National Council of Hindu Temples.
Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna,
is a festival that teaches us the values of family, the importance
of justice, and the significance of faith. As such it is a festival
whose values are shared by all faith traditions.
I understand that this is the first time
that Janmashtami has been celebrated in the House of Commons. It
is a tribute to the very positive contribution that the Hindu community
has made to all aspects of life in the UK.
Once again, congratulations to everyone
involved in this event and I offer my best wishes and greetings
to the Hindu community in Britain on this joyous occasion."
TONY BLAIR.
